about

Welcome to Sip NZ Wine, a New Zealand wine and lifestyle website, that celebrates, well … New Zealand wine – including wineries, makers and personalities, regions, events, bars and wine related news.

Having worked in the New Zealand wine industry for the last years we felt that there is room for a wine site that allows you to meet the makers who passionately craft those lovely wines and keeps you wine lovers up to date with what’s happening in the regions including events and places you can enjoy New Zealand wines at.

Sip NZ Wine is a place of discovery and celebration of this fabulous young industry that puts a small country of 4 million people on the world stage and fills our glasses with joy and pleasure (almost) every day!

Who we are!

Caro Jensen

Originally from Germany, Caro moved to Auckland in 2007 and wrote her thesis on marketing New Zealand wine in Germany for NZ Winegrowers. After working for Matakana Estate, getting great insight into all areas of a boutique producer, she went to London and joined Wine Intelligence to find out what makes wine consumers around the world tick.

She then joined Villa Maria and put insights into practice launching several new products and managing consumer marketing campaigns.

Caro is also a World Wine Warrior at tongueexplorers.com keeping wine lovers updated as the “Southern Sipper” about what’s happening in New Zealand.

Emily
Emily Camblin

A consummate World Wine traveler, Emily started off in the Napa Valley working for a few boutique wine producers, learning from the ground up- viticulture, wine production, sales and marketing. Then she moved to Mendoza, Argentina to work for The Vines of Mendoza, a wine start up that now has a stunning resort, tasting room and winery in the Uco Valley.

In love with Malbec and red wine blends she was however, lured by the cool climate whites and esoteric reds from New Zealand. Working for Villa Maria, she was able to delve into the many wine regions and grape varieties that New Zealand has to offer.

She has now settled in Auckland and is undertaking a new challenge, finding wine travel that is both dog and baby friendly.

… 30 countries in the first three years with some of the highlights including a climb to the top of Mt Fuji, a dive to the depths of the Red Sea and a (loooong) bicycle ride from London to Paris. She settled in London a while before relocating to Wellington in 2010, making a wee pit stop in India for a further yoga teaching qualification.

Currently she spends her days as a project manager and business analyst, her evenings and weekends as a yoga teacher and everywhere in between studying towards her WSET diploma certification.

Jenn
Jenn Kingen Kush

A wine adventurer, Jenn and her husband Mike have traveled and worked the world of wine. With just their passports and backpacks, a passion for adventure, travel, and wine inspired them to ‘chase harvest’ making wine across five continents, eight countries, and 23+ vintages.

The journey has taken them all over the world from the vineyards of Burgundy and Cahors, France; to the slopes of the Mosel; the Western Cape of South Africa; Sonoma, California; Italy and Argentina; historic Douro Valley, Portugal and its antipodes Central Otago, New Zealand.

Since 2009, Jenn and her husband spend time each year in Central Otago, New Zealand and Douro Valley, Portugal. These two wine regions have captured their hearts and become the home of their artisan boutique wine label called “Chasing Harvest” crafting limited edition wines.

When they are not making wine, they head to the brewery in Wanaka to make a limited edition craft beer infused with pinot juice aged in French oak barrels under the name “There Be Dragons”.

Jenn feels really lucky to spend so much time in the Central Otago wine region discovering the region, people, vineyards and exceptional wines each year.
