We’re back! I can’t believe it’s already mid-February. We’ve been busy sipping Rosé over at sipnzrose.com with over 60 leading NZ Rosé producers and pink wine lovers and are also working on some exciting new projects – that’s why it has been a bit quiet over here.

But we’re back with a bang today! We’re not only introducing you to a very competent and talented vinous gentlemen, we’re also running a pretty amazing giveaway.

Today’s Q&A is with Jonathan Reeve, Partner Program Manager at Wine-Searcher. Jonathan helps connecting the dots between wine websites and wine lovers via a ton of data.

Wine-Searcher is basically a gigantic wine database and search engine that brings together millions of wines and prices from thousands of merchants around the world. That’s pretty handy info to have at your finger tips.

So next time you can’t find a particular wine here in New Zealand that you’d love to try, hop onto Wine-Searcher and give it a whirl. It’s like Etsy or Netflix for wine, just that you actually find what you’re looking for!

But back to Jonathan. Let’s find out more about his role and wine passion … hi Jonathan, thanks a lot for your time, let’s get into it!

Jonathan Reeve

What do you do?
I work with wine words, wine data, wine websites and wine people. I’ve been at Wine-Searcher for 7 years now.

My current role as Partner Program Manager is all about developing mutually beneficial connections (both human and technical) between Wine-Searcher and the world’s key wine and spirits websites.

When and why did you fall in love with wine?
Oddly, I arrived at wine from whisky. A close friend of mine at Durham University introduced me to his family’s distillery, Glendronach. It was the obvious difference between decent single malt and everyday blends which established the interest.

My landmark wines were a Mooiplaas Pinotage 2002 and a big fat Rosemount McLaren Vale GSM 1998.

If you were a wine, what wine would you be?
A local Bordeaux blend (something like Saint Nesbit, Gillman Vineyard, Destiny Bay or Puriri Hills). An old world classic with a flash of new world polish.

What would you do if you weren’t at Wine-Searcher?
Vineyard owner and winemaker in Valais, Switzerland.

Wine & dine, what’s your favourite match?
Winter: Parmesan shards with aged Brunello di Montalcino.
Summer: Panfried gurnard in a caper, garlic and thyme butter sauce with Kumeu Chardonnay.

Which wine are you saving for a special occasion?
Grange 2008.

Dead or alive, who would you like to share a glass of vino with?
Roald Dahl. And can I please sneak in Quentin Blake to draw us?
